Obituary for William E. Kirwan, Sr.
William E. Kirwan, Sr., 86, of Pottsville, passed away on Monday morning in Providence Place, Pottsville.

Born in Bangor, PA on May 25, 1931, he was a son of the late Freda (Yuhl) and William F. Kirwan.

He was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (now known as Unversity of the Sciences, Philadelphia), where he received a Bachelor of Science degree.

Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was the owner and pharmacist at Cable’s Pharmacy until 1973 when the business was sold to Rite Aid. He continued working there until retiring in 2010.

Bill was a past President of the former Pottsville Club and a longtime member of the Pottsville Rotary.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Rosemary "Kirkie" (Kurtz) in February 1989; 2nd wife, Angela (Gentile) Pellegrino in February 2015; and brother, John Kirwan.

William is survived by three daughters: Michele, wife of Richard McClain, of Pittsburgh; Kathy, wife of Rick Smolskis, of Cerritos, CA; Karen Ryan, of Orwigsburg; two sons William E. Jr., husband of Beth , of Orwigsburg; David, husband of Lisa Pellegrino, of Pensacola, FL; sister, Betty, widow of Vincent Callery, of Pottsville; brother, Robert, husband of Mary Frances Kirwan, of Freehold, NJ; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 17th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Msgr. Edward J. O'Connor as celebrant. A viewing will be held in the church on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass.

Entombment with military honors will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.
