Obituary for William "Bill" C. Elison
William “Bill” C. Elison, 88, of Pottsville, passed away on Sunday morning at York Terrace, Pottsville.
Born in Pottsville, on November 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Mary E. (Goodman) and Carl W. Elison.
Bill was a 1946 graduate of Pottsville High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pottsville, where he served on the church council for many years and also served as a Eucharistic Minister, retiring in 2014.
Bill was employed for Verizon as a lineman, splicer, and worked in the office for 42 years, retiring in 1992.
He was very involved with community activities and served as an assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scout Pottsville Lions Troop 3; a member of The Order of the Arrow; a member of the Memeu Lodge 125, Catholic War Vets and the Bell Tel Pioneers and a former member of the Pottsville Club.; and served as an officer on the Pottsville Wrestling Association for 12 years.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. (Runkle), to whom he married in 1953 and was married for 63 years; sons: Richard C. Elison, husband of Cecilia, of Pottsville; Ronald W. Elison, husband of Terry, of Breinigsville; Robert V. Elison, husband of Nancy, of Barnesville; daughter, Christina D., wife of Mark Seiger, of Pottsville; grandchildren: Tara, Brian, Michelle, Holly, Jon, Matt, Ryan, and Emma; great-grandchilden: Chase, Olivia, Isabella, Lillyan, Zeppelin, and Owen; and sister Lorraine, wife of James Campion, of Pottsville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 16th at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 913 Mahantongo St., Pottsville with the Rev. David J. Loeper officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville from 6-8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the procession will leave for church.
Interment with military honors will follow in St. John #2 Cemetery, Pottsville.
The family request contributions in Bill’s memory be sent to St. John the Baptist Memorial Fund, 913 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
