Obituary for Sylvia Ann Gittleman

Sylvia Ann Gittleman, 88, of Pottsville, passed away on Friday, April 7th, in Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital, Allentown.

Born in Fannettsburg, PA, on September 24, 1934, Sylvia was the daughter of the late David R. and Mary Ann (Hoover) Rosenberry.

Sylvia graduated from Fannettsburg High School and Lebanon Valley College where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music.

After graduation, she married David H. Gittleman to whom she was wedded for 61 years. Sylvia was the epitome of the modern-day woman; striking the balance between her career and dedication to her family. Sylvia was a special education teacher for the IU29 in Pottsville, piano teacher and co-founder of HawkMtn Metals and Labs with her husband Dave in 1985, which is now HawkMtn Labs, Inc owned by their son Jeffrey.

Sylvia was an avid and devoted fan of the arts; whether it was a trip to Philadelphia for a theater production or down the street to hear the orchestra perform at the Yuengling Mansion, she made certain it was a staple in her life and in those close to her. She embraced life; enjoyed being in the lime lite, loved dressing up for cocktails & dinner; treasured every moment spent with her son, grandchildren, her nutty Rosenberry family ( as she would refer to them ) and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Gittleman, in August 2018; son, Scott Gittleman, in 1981; brothers: Edgar J., Carl L., and Dean D. Rosenberry; and sister, Grace Marie “Peggy” Miller.

Sylvia Ann is survived by son, Jeffrey L. Gittleman, companion of DeAnn Miller, of Sugarloaf, PA; grandchildren: Sarah Kate and Benjamin Scott Gittleman; daughter, Allison Gittleman-McNearney; sister, Lena (George) Radanovic, of Ft. Loudon, PA and brother, Robert (Norma), of Shippensburg, PA; brother-in-law, Richard Miller; sister-in-law, Anna Rosenberry; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 14th, at 11:00 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
