Obituary for Robert H. "Eggie" Hummel
Robert H. "Eggie" Hummel, 91, of Pottsville, passed away on Tuesday afternoon in his residence with his family by his side. Born in Pottsville, on July 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Claude and Marie (Plasko) Hummel. ��He was a 1942 graduate of Pottsville High School. ��Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from January 1944 to April 1946. He served aboard the USS Conyngham DD 371 Destroyer. ��He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Pottsville, where he served on the Consistery Board. He was a life member of the following organizations: Humane Fire Co.; Walter Griffith AmVets Post 180, where he served as past Commander from 1959-1960; and the Disabled Vets. He was very proud to be chosen as the 2014 Grand Marshal for the Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters Association Convention Parade in Pottsville representing the Humane Fire Company. ��Robert was an electrician for most of his life for IBEW Local 143 Harrisburg, PA, where he worked on various power plants, retiring in 1985. ��In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Colette J. (Dando) Hummel, on February 5, 2015, to whom he was married 61 years; granddaughter, Megan; and brother, Allan. ��Robert is survived by two daughters, Gail M., wife of David Boone, of Cincinnati, OH; Karen A. , wife of Eric Hertz, of Schuylkill Haven; grandchildren: Amy, wife of Matthew Pugh; Matthew, Michelle, Brian, and Kevin Boone; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Sunday evening, May 31st at 7:00 p.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with Rev. James Fidler officiating. A viewing will be held at 5:30 p.m. until time of service. ��Interment will be on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. The procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. The family request contributions in Robert's memory be sent to: The American Heart Association, P.O.
