Obituary for Richard F. Higgins
Richard F. Higgins, 88, of Pottsville, passed away on Friday evening in his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Pottsville, on November 22, 1926, he was the son of the late William F. and Sarah (Miller) Higgins Sr. He was a 1944 graduate of Pottsville High School and attended Catholic University. He was a life-long member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. ��Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He was the past President of William F. Higgins Inc. and a real estate developer. Dick especially enjoyed traveling and playing bridge. ��Dick was very active in the Schuylkill County community. He was a past President of the Pottsville Rotary Club and the Pottsville Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a board member of SEDCO and Penn State Schuylkill Campus also, past President of the Greater Pottsville Industrial Development Corporation and past President of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce. Dick served as County Commissioner from 1984-1992 and also served on the County Democratic Executive Committee. ��In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Warmkessel in 1988; brother, William F. Higgins Jr.; sisters: Grace Quinn and Marian Gray. Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara Lawson Dee Higgins ; daughters: Nancy, wife of Joseph Schlitzer, of Pottsville; Marybeth, wife of George Dohmann, of Lake Wyonnah; grandchildren: Carolyn, wife of Darren March; Ellen, wife of Matt Nestorick; Thomas Schlitzer, Andrew Dohmann; and Adrian Dohmann; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. ��Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
