Obituary for Rev. Stephen R. Kennedy
Rev. Stephen R. Kennedy, 69, of Pottsville, passed away on Sunday evening at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 27, 1945 he was the son of the late Thomas and Joyce (Castillino) Kennedy. Steve attended Long Island Bible Institute, Oyster Bay, NY, and held a Bachelors degree in Theology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary, Jacksonville, FL. He also continued to do graduate work in counseling. He was co-Founder and co-Director with his wife of Resurrection Life Ministries, Chicago, IL. Steve was also very active in numerous ministerial and outreach programs. He was the co-Director of New Life for Girls, Chicago, IL; the Dean of Men for Teen Challenge, Chicago, IL; the Pastor of Operation Outreach, Elgin, IL; the co-Director of Jude 22, Freemont, MI; the Pastor of Church in the Son, Daytona Beach, FL, and Faith Temple, Newaygo, MI. He spent 30 years in radio, broadcasting his ministry in West Dundee, IL, Daytona Beach, FL, and Holland, MI. He is survived by his wife, Rev. Sue (Koury), to whom he was married for 36 years; two daughters, Laurie J., wife of Anthony Karpathakis, Hicksville, NY, and Angel K. Kennedy, Hometown, PA; one granddaughter, Penelope Karpathakis. The family rejoices at Steve's homecoming into Heaven. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A viewing will be held on Friday evening 6-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. Another memorial service will be held at World Overcomers Church in Bartlet, IL at a later date. The family requests contributions in Stephen's memory be made out to WOC (memo Res. Life), 1315 W.
