Obituary for Natale "Chris" Mercuri
Natale "Chris" Mercuri, 83 , of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Thursday morning in Lehigh Valley Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Platania CZ, Italy, on November 11, 1931, he was the son of the late Antonia (Giardino) and Domenico Mercuri. He came to the United States when he was 13 years old and started his career as a dishwasher and worked his way up to a chef at the Schuylkill Country Club and Necho Allen. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Amor Fraterno Italian Club, Pottsville, where he served as past Treasurer, Vice-President, and President. Chris was a entrepreneur owning several local establishments, which included, Villa Montagna Restaurant, Country Squire, Mercuri's Steak House, Mercuri's Carwash, Davis Hotel, and Mercuri's Bar and Restaurant, all in Schuylkill County. He enjoyed traveling and driving to the beach, playing his accordion for his great grandchildren, cooking, gardening, but what he loved most of all was spending time with his family and friends and reminiscing of old times. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Maria Mercuri. Chris is survived by his wife, Teresa, to whom he was married 60 years; dear daughters: Antonette "Tina" Mercuri, of Schuylkill Haven; Rosina Mercuri, of Pottsville; Natalie, wife of Robert Gennerella, of Orwigsburg; Mary, wife of Chuck Rinaldo, of Pottsville; dear son, Domenico P. Mercuri, of Pottsville; dear grandchildren: Terri Lee, wife of Ian Keck; Christopher, husband of Cassie Mercuri; Angela, wife of Eric Hufnagle; Alexandra, wife of Willy Patrocino; Regina Rinaldo, fiance of Derek Wozniski; Maria, wife of Harry Luscan; dear great grandchildren: Luciano and Gianni Keck; Cambria and Giuliana Mercuri; and Marcus Patrocino; brother, John Mercuri and his wife, Maria, of Pottsville; sister, Caroline Doyne, of Pottsville;brother-in-law, Albino Mercuri and his wife, Ivana, of Pottsville ; Aunt Lauretta, of Auburndale, MA; nieces, nephews, cousins; and grand nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated by Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik and Rev. Edward B. Connolly on Monday, May 4th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose R.C. Church, 201 Randel St., Schuylkill Haven . A viewing will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville and on Monday morning at the church from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pottsville.
