Obituary for Margaret L. Shay
Our beautiful mother, Margaret L. Shay, 90, of Pottsville passed away Saturday, September 24th at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Bridgenorth, Shropshire, England on April 29, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy Massie.
Margaret worked as a seam-stress for over 30 years at Juliette Fashions, Pottsville.
Margaret touched so many lives. She was a great neighbor and friend.
She was one of the original members of the Women's International Club, which started in 1949 for war brides in the Schuylkill County Area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Shay, on December 28, 2009, and to whom she was married 62 years.
Margaret is survived by four children, Edward Shay, husband of Barbara, of Dover, DE; Christine Moore, wife of David, of Schuylkill Haven; Diane Billingham, wife of Bruce, of Palo Alto; and David Shay, husband of Lyn, of Allentown; 11 grandchildren: Michael, Jeffrey, and Christopher Shay, Jason Juranis, Kelli Childs, Jaclyn Gretsky, Justin Billingham, Katie Mast, Jerome Anderson, Kristin Sullivan, and John Moore; 15 great grandchildren: Erica, Peter, Brandon, Trevor, and Chloe Shay, Quinten and Celia Childs, Lily Rose Juranis, Owen and Elise Gretsky, Matthew Billingham, Griffin Mast, Will Sullivan, and Isaiah and Elijah Moore; sister Christine Massie, of Shifnal Shropshire , England; her loving companions: Mondo, her cat and Cookie, her puppy; several nieces, nephews, and many neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30th at 11:30 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA.
A visitation will be held Thursday evening 6-8:00p.m. and Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
