Obituary for Leona R. Schaeffer
Leona R. Schaeffer, 94, of Pottsville, passed away on Saturday evening in Providence Place. Born in Reading on July 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Dora (Heller) and Joseph Robinson. She was a member of Oheb Zedeck Synagogue and was very active in the Hadassah Sisterhood. Leona worked for the Pottsville School District Middle School in the cafeteria for fifteen years, retiring as cafeteria manager in 1985. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl L. Schaeffer, in 1986 and to whom she was married for 44 years and her sister, Rose Greth. Leona is survived by a daughter, Donna, wife of Steven Walter, of Mt. Laurel, NJ and son, Jeffrey M. Schaeffer, husband of Regan, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.; grandchildren: Alexis Evans and Alyssa Walter, Maggie Tassi, and Leah Gregory; great grandchildren: Jack and Allie Evans. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville with Rabbi Melody Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Oheb Zedeck Cemetery, Pottsville.
