Obituary for Kurt P. Shellhammer
Kurt P. Shellhammer, 66, of Pottsville, passed away at home on Friday afternoon. Born on January 2, 1949, Kurt was the son of the late Curtis and Anna (Paul) Shellhammer. ��He attended Port Carbon Elementary School, Pottsville Area High School, and Drexel University. Kurt had an avid interest in all aspects of aviation. He became a licensed private pilot and his piper cherokee was the second love of his life. He hangared at Bendigo Airport , Tower City where he was fondly named "Captain Kurt". Kurt loved flying professional stunt kites on the beach in Wells, Maine especially with his nephew, Peter (Bubba). He also enjoyed family gathering and celebrations. ��Kurt is survived by his wife, Pat (Stevens) Shellhammer; sister, Daryl, wife of Peter Ellef, of Wells, ME; sister-in-law, Gerri, wife of Dave Goines, of Pottsville; nieces: Christine, wife of Peter Kurtz, of Wethersfield, CT; Tara Ellef, of Southington, CT; Stacey Goines , of Schuylkill Haven; nephews: Peter Ellef, of Southington, CT; Scott Goines, of Pottsville; David Goines, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; mother-in-law, Rose Stevens; and great nieces and nephews. ��A Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, August 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc, 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A visitation with the family will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private. The family request contributions in Kurt's memory be sent to the Pottsville Free Public Library, 215 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA 17901 or to the charity of your choice.
