Obituary for Jevin R. McGonigle
Jevin R. McGonigle, 50, of Pottsville, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening in his residence after his lifelong battle with depression.
Born in Philadelphia, on December 3, 1971, on his mother's birthday, he was a son of Shirley A. (Kovach) and the late James A. McGonigle.
He was a 1990 graduate of Pottsville High School and Bloomsburg University Class of 1994, where he received his Bachelor Degree in Finance.
Jevin spent many years in the financial field; from 1994-2004 he was a Senior Wealth Management Advisor and CFM Assistant Vice-President at Merrill Lynch and from 2004-2012 he was a self-employed Wealth Management Advisor with JRM Wealth Management.
He was raised Lutheran and had interest in the Church of Christ and enjoyed prayer time with the missionaries.
Jevin loved collecting baseball cards and coins and was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. He enjoyed playing basketball, talking politics, and was fascinated with the history of Abraham Lincoln.
A few words to describe Jevin would be compassionate, loving, empathic, and non-judgemental. He will be loved and forever missed by his family and friends.
Jevin had been battling with Major Depressive Disorder for most of his life. Unfortunately, after years of failed treatment attempts, his condition became worse. He fought so hard, but in the end, he just could not hold on any longer. His family is devastated by this loss, but finds comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain. A quote from one of his favorite movies, Rocky, " It ain't about how hard you hit, It's about how hard you can get hit and keep getting up". Unfortunately, this time he could not get up.
In addition to his father, Jevin was preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandmother, Mary Kovach; and aunt, Mary E. Kovach
Jevin is survived by his mother, Shirley; brother, James S. McGonigle, husband of Debra, of Reading; sister, Camille M. McGonigle, of Florida; nephews: Tyler, Drew, and Jackson; niece, Kori; aunt, Madelyn Miscannon, wife of Lenny; and uncle, Richard Kovach. Jevin had a special relationship with his aunts and uncles and enjoyed spending time with them.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 28th at 12:00 p.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with Pastor Chris Rothharpt officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.
Interment will be private.
