Obituary for Jean Louise DiCiero
Jean Louise DiCiero, 89, of Pottsville, passed away on Sunday morning surrounded by her family at Hospice and Community Care in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Born in Pottsville, on August 5, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Moore) and Harry Ponter. She was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and a life-long member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. Jean volunteered weekly in the office of Assumption BVM School (formerly All Saints) for many years. She treasured the time she spent with the staff and the students. She enjoyed embroidery, word puzzles, occasional trips with friends to the casinos and most of all, spending time with her family and her friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse M. DiCiero, to whom she was married for 54 years; also, her beloved son, Anthony, her sister, Marguerite Ponter Varano and her brother, William Ponter. Jean is survived by her daughter, Jeanne, wife of Irwin McIlwain, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, grandchildren: Alison McIlwain Bowser, wife of David, Colin McIlwain, Gregory McIlwain, husband of Jessica and great grandchildren: Lily, Leyton, Andrew, Alexandra and Abigail McIlwain. Her sister, Frances Sanders, of San Jose, CA and her dear friend and guardian angel, Peggy Clews, also survive her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 24th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. A visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the church. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.
