Obituary for Jean L. Semick
Jean L. Semick, 90, of Mar-Lin, passed away on Thursday afternoon in Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, with her family by her side. Born in Mar-Lin, on December 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John and Dertha (Moyer) Suter. Jean was a 1942 graduate of Pottsville Area High School and an active member of the United Presbyterian Church, Pottsville, where she served as a Stephen Minister and as a Deacon. She also volunteered on several church committees including helping with Vacation Bible School. ��She also participated in the community by volunteering with Schuylkill Women in Crisis and Meals on Wheels. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be remembered for her passion for dancing, hosting outdoor picnics, her amazing baking ability, and her knack for making an attractive table when serving her delicious meals. ��In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John Semick, in 1986 and to whom she was married 40 years; an infant son, John Semick; brother, Roy Suter; sisters: Turine Plodis, Roma Briggs, and Marie Houtz. Jean is survived by her children: Daniel Semick, husband of Margaret, of Annapolis, MD; Victor Semick, husband of Renee, of Pottsville; Janet Weigand, wife of Gary, of Pottsville; 5 grandchildren: David and Stephen Semick, of Annapolis, MD; Joshua Semick, of Alexandria, VA; Taylor Weigand, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and AuBrei Weigand Heller, of Cockeysville, MD; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, August 19th, at 9:30 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc. from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions in Jean's memory be sent to the "John Semick Memorial Fund", c/o The United Presbyterian Church of Pottsville, 214 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901. ��Lord Bixler Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements. ��Online condolences may be expressed at lordbixler.com. ����
