James L. Scheuren, Sr., 87, of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street with his family by his side.
Born in Pottsville on January 31, 1935, he was a son of the late Leo L. and Mildred (Russen) Scheuren.
He was a 1952 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and a 1956 graduate of Villanova University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree.
James was a member of St. Patrick R.C.C., Pottsville, where he served on the Parish Finance Committee.
He was former board member of the Pottsville Club and also, coached Rotary Little League.
James was self-employed and owner of Schuylkill News Service.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marylou (Elliott) Scheuren on March 27, 2019, and to whom he was married 60 years; and brother, Frank Leo Scheuren, September 2021.
James is survived by a daughter, Jane E. Scheuren, of Minersville; two sons: James L. Scheuren, Jr., companion of Merideth Hannan, of Pottsville; Jeffrey L. Scheuren, husband of Barbara (Reagan), of Whitehall; sister, Janet Kurtz, of Savannah, GA; grandchildren: James J. and Casey E. Scheuren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 31st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Father Phil Rodgers officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the procession will leave for church at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville.
Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions in James' memory be sent to: St. Patrick's Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
