Obituary for James J. Hampford III
James J. Hampford, III, 66, of Pottsville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, Reading.

Born in Pottsville, on August 14, 1951, he was a son of the late Kathleen A. (O'Connor) and James J. Hampford, Jr.

He was a graduate of Nativity BVM High School and a member of St. Patrick R.C.C., Pottsville.

Jim worked for the Schuylkill County Communications Center as a supervisor for 25 years, retiring in 2013. He was a very involved volunteer in the Pottsville community, where he belonged to the Emergency Management Agency and was a forest fire warden. He was a fixture for decades in the fire service, emergency medical services, and emergency management. This past month, Jim was named Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Pottsville.

He was a member of Yorkville Hose and Llewellyn Good Intent Hose Companies.

Jim was a train enthusiast and was fascinated with the military. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons watching the helicoptors at Indiantown Gap.

He was preceded in death by his father, James J. Hampford in 1972 and his mother, Kathleen A. Hampford
in 2017.

Jim is survived by his wife, Diane (Lowthert) to whom he was married 36 years; children: Brett R. Jones, husband of Paula, of Pottsville ; Alison D. Bierman, wife of Kevin, of Pottsville; and Sean J. Hampford, husband of Stephanie, of Ephrata, PA; brother, Edward "Ned" Hampford, husband of Tammie, of Pottsville; sisters: Kathleen Hampford, of Pottsville; Karen Hampford, of Yonker, NY; and Betsy Taylor, of Harrisburg; grandchildren: Aidan, Emma, Elizabeth, Colton, Brady, and Everly; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 19th, at 11:00 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville with Greg Hafer officiating. A visitation with the family will be held in the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.
