Obituary for James F. "Tiny" McGovern
James F. "Tiny" McGovern, 80, of Lake Wynonah, passed away in his residence on Sunday afternoon with his family by his side.
Born in Pottsville, on August 16, 1940, he was a son of the late Terrance W. and Alma (Couligan) McGovern.
He was a graduate of Nativity BVM, class of 1958.
Jim was a member of St. Ambrose R.C. Church, Schuylkill Haven and attended St. Patrick R.C.C., Pottsville.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, where he was in the military police.
Jim was owner of McGovern & Co. Inc., Carpet Cleaning. He worked in the chief clerks office for the House of Representatives for 10 years and a correction officer at SCI Mahanoy Federal Prison for 10 years, retiring in 2005.
Jim’s favorite pastime was spending time with his many great friends and family. His infectious laugh filled any room and he felt he had lived a full and happy life.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers: Lawrence, husband of June; and Terrance, husband of Agnes.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jacqueline V. (Matthews), to whom he was married 51 years; son, James P. McGovern and daughter-in-law, Kathy McBride, of Lake Wynonah; grandchildren: Patrick and Corbi McGovern and Laurel McDorman; sister, Mary Margaret McGovern, of Orwigsburg; brothers: Donald, widower of Ann, of Pottsville; and Thomas, of CA; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 30th at at 11:00 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with Deacon Jack Quirk officiating. A visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.
Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be private.
