Obituary for James E. Evans
James E. Evans, 91, of Pottsville, passed away on Sunday with his family by his side at Schuylkill Center East Norwegian, Pottsville. Born in Pottsville, on February 13, 1923, he was a son of the late Martha (Morgan) and James Evans, Jr. He was a graduate of Pottsville High School. James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pottsville, where he volunteered as an Assistant Boy Scout Cubmaster Pack #12. James worked at the former Van Heusen Company for many years and then at Good Sam Hospital in housekeeping, where he retired in 1992. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Mae (Snyder) on November 3, 2012 and to whom he was married for 63 years and sisters: Margaret Hendershot and Ruth Davenport. James is survived by a son, David R., husband of Lilly Wang-Evans, of Pottsville; grandson, Robert Evans, husband of Yi Yang, China; great granddaughter, Yoomi Evans-Yang; brother, Charles Evans, of Orwigsburg; sister, Catherine Schaeffer, of Marlin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with Rev. Bradley Schutt officiating. Friends and family are invited to a viewing at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. The family requests contributions in James' memory be sent to First United Methodist Church, 330 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA 17901. Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
