Obituary for James Beard
James Beard, 87, of Pottsville, passed away unexpectedly in his daughter's residence on Tuesday evening. Born in Pottsville, on July 9, 1928, he was a son of the late Mary (Coles) and Harry Beard. He was a graduate of Pottsville High School and attended Bethel AME, Pottsville, where he volunteered often, maintaining the church and grounds. James proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a paratrooper and later also, served in the U.S. Army. He worked in the construction field for many years and later at Allied Chemical for 17 years. James enjoyed hunting and spending time in the outdoors. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by brothers: Harry, Robert, Thomas, Paul, Lawrence, and Richard. James is survived by his wife, Laverna (Allen) Beard, to whom he was married for 60 years; a daughter, Patricia L. Beard, fiancee of Lonnie Watford, of St. Clair; a son, Warren J., husband of Jacqueline Beard, of Fayetteville, NC; brother, Eugene Beard, of Washington, DC; grandchildren: James Warren Beard and Markita; sister-in-laws: Anna, wife of Alvin Coleman and Brenda, wife of John Case; several nieces and nephews.
