Obituary for Helen K. Schaeffer
Helen K. Schaeffer, 95, of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning at York Terrace. Born in St. Clair, on March 29, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Estock) Kalyan. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pottsville and the Catholic Women's Union of St. John's. Helen was also a member of the Catholic War Vets Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, and the Yorkville Hose Co. She was a housewife for her entire life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Schaeffer in 1994; brothers: John, Michael, Peter, George, Andrew, and Joseph; sisters: Mary, Susan, Elizabeth, and Anna. Helen is survived by a sister, Margaret Premich, of Dieners Hill; her caretaker, Christine Angst, who thought of Helen as a second mother; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, 913 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7th, with Rev. David J. Loeper officiating. A viewing will be held in the church at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in St. John #2 Cemetery, Pottsville.
