Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" E. Field
Gerald "Jerry" E. Field, 80, of Orwigsburg, died Friday evening at Genesis Healthcare Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, with his wife by his side. Born in Queens, NY on July 22, 1934, he was the son of the late Sally (Sanderoff) and Abraham Fuchs. Jerry graduated from Newton High School, Brooklyn, NY in 1952 and upon graduation served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Saran, France. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from The City College of New York, Baruck School in 1958. He moved to Pottsville in 1960 where he was employed by Weiner Iron and Metal. In 1965, he purchased Weiner Iron and Metal; and later moved the company to its current location in Mt. Carbon, Rt. 61. Jerry owned the company until his retirement in 2005. Jerry was a member of Oheb Zedeck Synagogue, Pottsville. He was very involved with the Pottsville community and the surrounding area. Jerry served on the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Iron and Steel, Inc. and was the President from 1976-1977; served as a board director of Pennsylvania National BankKeystone Financial Bank (now M&T Bank) from 1980-2005; board member of Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation and served as President from 1985-1987; he also served on the advisory boards of Good Samaritan Hospital from 1987-1993 and Penn State-Schuylkill Campus from 1999-2010. He received the B'Nai Brith ADL Torch of Liberty Award in 1987 and was named "Businessman of the Year 1987" by the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce. Also of importance to Jerry was getting together for his annual reunion with his Saran Army buddies and their spouses (fondly called "The Red Ball Express"). Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Carol; son, Steven Field, husband of Laura, of Orwigsburg; daughter, Amy Lewis, of Virginia; step-son, Eric Stone, husband of Barbara, of New Jersey; twin sister, Elaine O'Mansky, wife of Samuel, of Maryland; brother, Marvin Fields, of New York; grandchildren: Sadie, Lucia, Henry, George, Julianne, Briana, Alexa, George IV, and Thomas; and great grandchildren, Sophy and Jasmine. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd at 12:00 p.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Oheb Zedeck Cemetery, Pottsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jerry's name can be made to: Penn State, Schuylkill Campus, 200 University Dr., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972; Oheb Zedeck Synagogue, 2400 West End Ave., Pottsville, PA 17901; or Lutheran Home Hospice Care, 1710 E.
