Obituary for Eugene Schupak
Eugene Schupak, 92, of Haverford, PA and formerly of Pottsville, passed away on Thursday evening in Bryn Mawr Hospital, Bryn Mawr, PA.

Born in the Bronx, New York City, on March 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Kate (Younker) and Harry Schupak.

After graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School, Bronx, NY, Eugene attended New York University (NYU) where he received a Bachelor of Science degree and after World War II went on to Boston University, where he received his Masters degree in chemistry.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a corporal in a medical unit in WWII, serving at the Panama Canal.

Eugene was a member of Oheb Zedeck Synagogue, Pottsville, the American Chemical Society, ASTM International, and the New York Academy of Sciences. He was active in the synagogue; a regular attendee at worship services, and a volunteer to visit the disabled Jewish residents of Hamburg State Hospital to ensure they had a connection to their heritage.

He was an avid hobbyist photographer who loved to take long nature hikes with his cameras, especially at Hawk Mountain and Frog Hollow. He was a passionate collector of antique cameras and enjoyed using them. As both a scientist and a photographer, he was always keenly observant of even the the smallest details.

He worked as a senior research chemist for Allied Chemical (now Honeywell). Over a career that spanned 40 years, he had several patents for industrial plastics to his credit, and was a stickler for ensuring that safety regulations at the Pottsville Plant were followed to the letter.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his first wife, Adrienne K. Schupak, in 1969; and second wife, Phyllis M. Schupak, to whom he was married for almost 40 years until her death on April 2, 2013. He was preceded in death by his older brother Milton Schupak and sister-in-law Joyce Schupak.

Eugene is survived by his daughters Hedda Schupak, wife of James Baum, of King of Prussia; Susan Farkas Wenner, wife of Robb, of Nashville, TN; grandson Matthew Wenner; brother, Leonard Schupak, husband of Bonnie, of Mission Viejo, CA; multiple nieces and nephews, and four grand-cats.

Services will be held on Sunday, October 9th at 11:30 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville with Rabbi Brian Nevins-Goldman officiating. A visitation will be held in the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Interment will follow in Oheb Zedeck Cemetery, Pottsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, www.amnh.org.

Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Online condolences may be expressed at lordbixler.com.
