Obituary for Dorothy M. "Dot" Ryan
Dorothy M. "Dot" Ryan, 83, of Pottsville , passed away peacefully on Saturday evening in her residence with her family by her side. Born in Wadesville , PA on February 7, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Anna (Kovich) and Michael Fedock. She was a graduate of Saint Clair High School. Dorothy worked as a floor supervisor at Meyer Weiss and other local garment factories, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church , Pottsville and St. John's Catholic Women's Union and a member of the former Mary Queen of Peace Church and the Lady's Guild. Dorothy was very active in the community and volunteered at Manor Care, where she was recognized with several certificates for her dedication. She was an avid and devoted Penn State fan and a member of the Penn State Nittany Lions Club since 1977. She loved playing Bingo and traveling to Penn State, as well as West Virginia , but most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Ryan on July 19, 1992 and to whom she was married for 36 years; brother, John Kovich and sister, Mary Erdock. Dorothy is survived by daughters: Donna M., wife of James Pugh, of Pottsville; Dorothy A. Ryan, of Lake George, NY; Christine S., wife of John Eagan, of Pottsville; and sons: John J. Ryan Jr., of Minersville; and Michael F. Ryan, husband of Amy, of Pottsville; brothers: Michael Kovich, of Port Carbon and Joseph Kovich, of Pottsville; sisters: Ethel Cooper, of Tafton and Helen Eagan, of St. Clair; grandchildren: James and Crystal Pugh; Michael, Rachel, and Patrick Ryan; Sean, Cassandra, and Olivia Eagan; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Kathleen McDonald, of Doylestown, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church , 913 Mahantongo St. , Pottsville, with Bishop Ronald Gainer officiating. A viewing will be held at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St. , Pottsville on Wednesday, October 29th from 5-8:00 p.m. and Thursday 9:30 a.m. until the procession leaves for church. Interment will follow at Queen of the Universe Cemetery , Pottsville .
