Obituary for David H. Gittleman
David H. Gittleman, 83 of Pottsville, died Saturday morning August 25th at his residence.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents M. Esther (Miller) and Benjamin Gittleman, brother Lou and son Scott.
Born in Pottsville on August 26, 1934, Dave graduated from Minersville Highschool Class of ’52 and Lebanon Valley College earning a B.S. degree in Chemistry.
Dave was employed as a chemist by the Callery Chemical Company for a few years but was soon called upon to run the family business, Ben Gittleman Shoe Store from 1960-1980.
In 1985, Dave & wife Sylvia co-founded HawkMtn Metals and Labs, now HawkMtn Labs, Inc owned by son Jeffery.
Dave was a member of the Oheb Zedeck Synagogue and Masonic Lodge.
He was an avid reader, loved to cook, enjoyed the arts and a good Manhattan cocktail.
Dave is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia Ann (Rosenberry); son, Jeffery Lee, companion of De Ann Miller, Sugarloaf, PA; daughter, Allison McNearney, Florida; grandchildren: Sarah Kate and Benjamin Scott; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, September 6th 11:00 A.M. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc. 1818 Mahantongo St. Pottsville. A Visitation with the family will be held in the funeral from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
Interment will follow at the Schuylkill Memorial Park, Route 61 Schuylkill Haven.
