Obituary for Catherine R. Bortzel
Catherine R. Bortzel, 84, of Chesterbrook and formerly of Pottsville, passed away on May 24th in her residence. Born in Pottsville, on June 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Linus F. and Frances V. (Smith) Bortzel. She was a member of St. Issac Jogues R.C. C., Wayne, PA and a former member of St. John the Baptist, Pottsville. Catherine was a 1947 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing. She was the head nurse in the maternity ward at Bryn Mawr Hospital for several years and retired in 1992. Catherine is survived by sisters: Marie Fitzpatrick, of Schuylkill Haven; Frances Dronick, of Cressona; and Francine Bortzel, of Maplewood, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 30th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 913 Mahantongo St., Pottsville with the Rev. David J. Loeper officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the church. Interment will follow in St. John #2 Cemetery, Pottsville. The family requests memorial contributions in Catherine's name be sent to: St. Issac Jogues R.C.
