Obituary for Bruce M. Edelson
Bruce M. Edelson, 79, of Ft. Myers, FL and formerly of Pottsville passed away Monday morning in Fort Myers, FL.

Born in Ashland, PA on November 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Mynne (Miller) and Jack Edelson.

Bruce was a graduate of Pottsville High School. He went on to attend Valley Forge Military Academy and then earned a bachelor's degree from the Pennsylvania State University in Hotel and Restaurant Management. At Penn State, he was a member of the Phi Sigma Delta Fraternity. He worked tirelessly on the fraternity Alumni Board for many years where, among other responsibilities, he organized the annual reunion weekend. Bruce also served several terms as President of the Penn State Alumni Association-Fort Myers Chapter.

He was a member of Temple Beth El in Fort Myers, FL and was previously a member of the Oheb Zedeck Synagogue, Pottsville.

Bruce and his wife, Ellen, owned and operated the Pottsville Dairy Queen from 1986-1994. Prior to that, he was in charge of the operations of the family business, Jackson Blouse Inc., located in Primrose.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen C. (Schwartz) Edelson, on February 19, 2010 and to whom he was married 45 years; and sister, Gail Neistadt.

Bruce is survived by a son, Mitchell, husband of Michelle Vichnin Edelson, of Blue Bell, PA; a daughter, Alisa, wife of Marc Friedman, of Montvale, NJ; grandchildren: Jessica and Sarah Edelson and Jordan, Jeremy, and Matthew Friedman; and companion, Harriet Peters.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 17th at 11:30 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA with Rabbi Bruce Michelson officiating. A visitation with the family will be held at 10:30 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Tifireth-Israel Cemetery, Mount Carmel.

In lieu of flowers the family request that you make a contribution to the organization of your choice in Bruce’s memory.
