Obituary for Arnold Delin
Arnold Delin, 89, of Orwigsburg, died Saturday evening in his residence with his wife Dolores by his side. Born Abraham Delinsky, June 4, 1925 in Nashua, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Rebecca and Simon Delinsky. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he served with General Patton during World War II. Arnold was an integral part of the Jewish community of Pottsville, serving in numerous capacities including President of Oheb Zedeck Synagogue, Pottsville for 5 terms. He was a member of B'nai Brith, the Pottsville Masonic Lodge and the Pottsville Jaycees. In addition, the Regional Director for the Anti-Defamation League and past President of the Schuylkill Country Club. Arnold was a humanitarian and champion of human rights. He waged a lifelong battle against social injustice, intolerance, and discrimination of all forms. Arnold came to Pottsville from Brooklyn, NY in 1955 and became owner of two garment factories: Peekaboo Styles of Schuylkill Haven and Fa Chatta of Mar Lin, after which, he became the Executive Director of the Atlantic Apparel Association for 35 years, negotiating contracts between the contractors, manufacturers and the Ladies Garment Workers Union. He retired in 2008. In addition to his parents, Arnold was preceded in death by brothers: Phillip and Sam Delinsky; sisters: Sara Rubin, Eva Delinsky, and Miriam Glick. Arnold is survived by his wife, Dolores M. (Blackman) to whom he was married 65 years; daughter, Robynn H. Delin, of New York City; son, Scott Delin, husband of Beth (Stettner), of Allentown; grandchildren: Arianna, Noah, and Benjamin; sister, Mildred Collender, of Virginia. Funeral services will be held today, Monday, March 16th at noon at Oheb Zedeck Synagogue, 2400 West End Ave., Pottsville, with the Rabbi Avi Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Oheb Zedeck Cemetery, Pottsville.
