Obituary for Anna M. Kurtek
Anna M. Kurtek, 92, of Pottsville, passed away Monday afternoon with her family by her side.

Born in Pottsville, on July 27, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Laura E. (Poppert) and Walter E. Hughes.

She was a graduate of Pottsville High School Class of 1943.

Anna was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pottsville where she belonged to the Catholic Womens Union and the Over 50 Social Club.

She worked at Kresge Department Store, Pottsville, for many years.

Anna enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her large family and attending shows and plays, crocheting and knitting for many families, and watched EWTN faithfully everyday. She will be remembered for her blue eyes and the smiles she brought to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen T. Kurtek, Jr. on January 2, 1985 and to whom she was married 37 years; son, Edward T.; brothers: Walter, Anthony, Vince, John, Leo, and Joe; sisters: Eva, Emma Louise, and great granddaughter, Mia Zaharis.

Anna is survived by six daughters: Patricia A., widow of Bill Zaharis, of Pottsville; Christine M. Kurtek, of CA; Margaret M., wife of Richard Wenner, of Minersville; Anne Marie Kurtek, of Pottsville; Barbara J., wife of David Kilmer, of Auburn; Laura E., wife of Jim Kramer, of Minersville; four sons: Walter E. Kurtek, husband of Gail, of Seltzer; Stephen T. Kurtek III,, husband of Janis, of Pottsville; Joseph C. Kurtek, husband of Maureen, of Seltzer; William A. Kurtek, husband of Angie, of York, PA; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Thomas Hughes, husband of Ann, of Annville; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, 913 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, on Saturday, September 3rd at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. David J. Loeper officiating. A viewing will be held in the church from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in St. John's #2 Cemetery, Pottsville.
