Obituary for Nelson Zachary Womer
Nelson Zachary (Zack) Womer, 38, of Pottsville, formerly of Severn, MD, passed away unexpectedly from colon cancer on Tuesday at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where he had a brief stay.
Born in Pottsville, on June 21, 1979, he was a son of Marie (Glovich) and Nelson E. Womer.
He was a 1997 graduate of Pottsville High School, where he was a member of the basketball and track teams and the band, where he played the trumpet. After high school he attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with honors, with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
Zack accepted a position at Fort Meade, Maryland, where he worked until August 2017. In his job, he had the opportunity to travel all over the world.
His athletic activities lead to his love of running and he became a part of the Spartan family of racers. Last year his illness began to zap him of his energy and his love to compete. Over the years he kept in close contact with Mike and Hank.
Zack was preceded in death by: grandparents, Mike and Rose Glovich and Nelson Womer and Shirley Gronski; uncle Brian Womer; aunt Jane Glovich; and aunt Barb Womer.
He is survived by his parents, Marie and Nelson E. Womer, of Pottsville; three sisters, Christina L. Womer, of Mt. Carbon; Stacey A. Womer, of Camp Hill, PA; Michelle M. Hashin, wife of Charlie Hashin, of Pottsville; brother, Kyle M. Womer, of Mechnicsburg, PA; nephews: Ethan, Collin, and Isaiah; niece, Kendra; uncles: Ronnie, husband of Connie; Michael, and Bobby; several cousins; extended family of co-workers at the N.S.A., Ft. Meade, Maryland; and the Spartan Race family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17th, at 3:00 p.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc, 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A viewing will be held in the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
